Thiago do Carmo received his Master's Degree in 2014 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a concentration in structures and railroad engineering. In his time at UIUC he worked as a graduate research assistant with the Rail Transportation and Engineering Center (RailTEC) from 2012 to 2014. Thiago's research focused on structural engineering, railroad infrastructure, concrete crossties fastening system, design improvement and analysis of track components. He was a member and active participant of the TRB Committee on Railroad Track Structure System Design and the AREMA Committee 30 on Crossties.
