Technical Tour Information

The Technical tour for the 2014 International Crosstie and Fastening System Symposium will visit three locations:

1) voestalpine Nortrak Inc. foundry for Special Trackwork and Fastening System Component Manufacture (Decatur, IL)
2) UIUC's new RailTEC Research and Innovation Laboratory (Champaign, IL)
3) UIUC's Wood Engineering Lab (Crosstie Accelerated Testing Laboratory) [RTA Members]

NOTES:

Steel toed boots are required for all technical tour locations. Please plan accordingly when packing for this trip. Hard hats (with RailTEC logo) will be provided to conference attendees as a gift for attending the conference.

Non-US Citizens: a portion of the technical tour for the Symposium takes place on the US Army Corps of Engineers facility that houses the new RailTEC Research and Innovation Laboratory (RAIL). Due to requirements set forth by the US Army Corps of Engineers, all non-US Citizens must go through a background check in advance of the tour. After May 1, any international attendees registering for the conference will NOT be able to visit the RAIL facilities because there will not be time to complete the required background check.

US Citizens: your names will also be provided to US Army Corps of Engineers in advance of the visit, and you will need to bring a state ID (drivers license) on the day of the tour (Wednesday 4 June 2014).
