i. Monday, August 4th – Champaign County (local) – See some of the sights and sounds of Champaign County.

Walking/Bus tour of University of Illinois – With over 44,000 students, from all 50 states, and more than 5,000 courses offered, Illinois’ main campus is almost 3 square miles.

ii. Tuesday, August 5th – Springfield, Illinois (86 miles/138km) – Visit the capital city of the state of Illinois and learn more about the 16th President of the United States.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum – The largest Presidential Museum and uses 21st century technology to bring 19th century history to life.

Visit Lincoln’s Tomb – The final resting place of Abraham Lincoln, his wife and three of their four sons. Rubbing his nose on the statue is supposed to bring you good luck!

Lunch in downtown Springfield

Lincoln Home National Historic Site – This site preserves Abraham Lincoln’s Springfield, Illinois home and a historic district where he lived from 1844 to 1861.

iii. Wednesday, August 6th – Amish Community/Farming (45 miles/72 km) – An up close and personal tour of the Illinois Amish culture with our step-on guided tour of the Amish countryside.

Lunch – Sit at a long table and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal family style in an Amish family home.

Home visit - After lunch visit yet another Amish family’s home and see how they live their simpler lifestyle.

When planning your travel to the conference please note that in addition to the Thursday, 7 August 2014 technical tour bus tickets we will also have tickets available for direct bus transportation. This bus will leave mid-morning Thursday from Champaign-Urbana and take you directly to the Intercontinental Hotel in Chicago. Tickets can be purchased for $40 for symposium registrants or guests on the registration page.
