In May 2013, UIUC RailTEC Alumnus, Yung-Cheng Lai (MS 2004, PhD 2008); RailTEC Senior Research Engineer, C. Tyler Dick; Professor Chris Barkan; and RailTEC MS students, Brennan Caughron and Samuel Sogin, attended “Rail – Copenhagen 2013”, the 5th International Seminar on Railway Operations Modeling and Analysis, organized by the International Association of Railway Operations Researchers and hosted by the Technical University of Denmark. They presented three papers and two of them were among five nominated for the best young researcher prize at the conference, one by Sam Sogin (M.S. student), C. Tyler Dick (Senior Research Engineer) and Chris Barkan (Professor), and the other by alumnus, Yung-Cheng Lai, now an Associate Professor at National Taiwan University, and his students, Yun-Hsuan Liu and Yi-Ju Lin.
