June 2013: The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) recently published a report on their website entitled “Investigating Technical Challenges and Research Needs Related to Shared Corridors for High-Speed Passenger and Railroad Freight Operations”. It was written by Rapik Saat, PhD, Research Assistant Professor for RailTEC, and Professor Chris Barkan, PhD, Executive Director of RailTEC. The report discusses the technical challenges associated with shared high-speed passenger and freight rail corridors, describes an effort to prioritize the challenges, and presents an in-depth literature review of specific high-priority challenges to identify existing research and future research needs.
