CEE 410/CEE 411 Field Visit

April 2015: Both CEE 410 and CEE 411 participated in field visits this month. CEE 410 (Railway Signaling and Control) visited Norfolk Southern’s Illinois Division Headquarters. They met train dispatchers and observed the dispatching hardware and software that Norfolk Southern uses to control train movements safely and efficiently throughout much of the Midwest. CEE 411 (Railroad Project Design and Construction) traveled to Chicago to visit the CREATE GS15a capital project at 130th and Torrence Avenue and CSX’s Bedford Park Intermodal Facility. The field visit provided the opportunity to see a railway capital project that is under construction as well as an operational intermodal facility that is among the largest in the United States.
