Christopher P.L. Barkan, Professor and George Krambles Director of RailTEC, was recently appointed an Emeritus Member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee AR000 Rail Group. This category of committee membership recognizes outstanding individuals who have participated as members of Technical Activities Division’s committee structure, have volunteered and shown their dedication to the TRB standing committees, and have made significant leadership contributions to these committees over a sustained period of time. Only three active Emeritus members at one time are allowed on a committee. Dr. Barkan is currently a member of the TRB Freight Rail Transport Committee (AR040) and the Railway Operating Technologies Committee (AR050). He is past Chairman of the TRB Rail Executive Board and also previously served on the TRB Technical Activities Council, the Railroad Track Design Committee (AR010) and the Transportation of Hazardous Materials.
