EOH 2021

Engineering Open House 2021 – “Together We Will…”

March 26 – 27, 2021

Engineering Open House (EOH) 2021 was a two-day student-lead virtual STEM fair showcasing 100 exhibits representing every department in the Grainger College of Engineering. These presentations were delivered either as a pre-recorded video or livestream, and the event was open to the public at no cost. Despite this change in format, the event still showcased exciting exhibits and captivating competitions as well as the talent and ingenuity of engineering students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-Of-Way Association (AREMA) Student Chapter was one of nine exhibits available within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in Newmark Lab.  Geordie Roscoe, chapter president, gave a demonstration on a railroad block signal system and explained its role in safe train operations. The electrical design matches that of the first fail-safe designs. Click here to watch the video or here for more information on a basic railway signaling track circuit.
