Professional Interests

Francesco Bedini Jacobini is pursuing a doctorate degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). His area of interest is ballast flight on high speed rail systems. Mr. Bedini is working on a risk based model to identify and categorize risk factors that may contribute to ballast flight as well as possible mitigation strategies, and their applicability to the United States. Furthermore a mechanistic approach will be explored to try to understand the mechanisms that initiate the motion of ballast particles. During his Masters studies Mr. Bedini worked on the preliminary feasibility study for a true high speed rail connecting the cities of Chicago and Champaign with extensions to St. Louis and Indianapolis. The study commissioned by the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2011, and completed in 2012.
