UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS – UI researchers opened a state-of-the-art center called Rail Tec, the Research and Innovation Laboratory. There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new place. It will be used to study rail safety.The lab is located in Interstate Drive Research Park, in Champaign. People involved say, it will not only benefit the university, but those in the rail industry as well.The assistant secretary from the U.S. Department of Transportation came for the big day. This is the only facility used for education like this in North America. It took a year-and-a-half to complete.
