EOH 2019

Engineering Open House 2019 – “Dare to Defy”

The 99th annual Engineering Open House (EOH) was held on March 8 – 9, 2019. This year’s theme was “Dare to Defy”. This annual student-led STEM fair currently showcases over 250 collegiate project exhibits, hosts four competitions, and draws thousands of visitors to U of I’s campus in just two jam-packed days. From the very beginning, the purpose of EOH has been to demonstrate the work of the students and colleges. EOH began as an attraction for high school students and grew to become a free public event for everyone. Families, students, and community members are invited to come and experience the atmosphere of innovation and creativity. It is estimated that over 26,000 visitors attend the event.

Adrian Diaz de Rivera, University of Illinois RailTEC graduate student and AREMA Student Chapter president, wrote an article about the student chapter participation in EOH. That article was chosen as one of two winners of this year’s AREMA Student Chapter Article Competition for Railway Track & Structures (RT&S) magazine. The title of the article is “Rail engineering outreach for all ages” and is in the May 2019 issue.
